APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE ATTACHED GRANT APPLICATION FOR A BYRNE DISCRETIONARY COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANT WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE AFFAIRS AND PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ALBUQUERQUE COMMUNITY SAFETY DEPARTMENT IN FISCAL YEAR 2024.
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Community Safety Department has a goal to ensure people of all ages have the access to holistic and trauma-informed response to calls for services; and
WHEREAS, the operation of the Albuquerque Community Safety Department provides the technical means of accomplishing these goals; and
WHEREAS, the City of Albuquerque is desirous of applying for these funds to help combat violence in the community.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE:
Section 1. That the attached application for the Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grant in the amount of $2,050,000 for the period of October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2026, is hereby approved and its submission and filing with the appropriate official or office of the U.S. Department of Justice is in all respects approved.
Section 2. That in the event that the grant is awarded, federal funds from the U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $2,050,000 for three years is hereby appropriated to the Albuquerque Community Safety Department in the Operating Grants Fund, Fund (265), for Fiscal Year 2024.
